Imagine spending three full years sailing across the seas and the oceans, visiting 135 countries in all 7 continents – sounds like an expensive trip of a lifetime, doesn’t it? Well, rest assured it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. Turkish company Miray Cruises has announced a three-year cruise that will cost around $30,000 per person per year.

The 130.000 nautical miles record-shattering journey, aboard Miray Cruises’ Gemini, will depart from Istanbul on November 1st and anchor at 135 different countries along the way. The management expects that all 400 passenger cabins will be fully booked by the end of April, with the daily average cost for the cruise standing at around $82/day.

Quoted by The Telegraph, Mikael Petterson, director at ticketing company Life at Sea Cruises, admitted that “there is no doubt that there will be no vacancies by the end of April “. The Turkish company Miray Cruises took inspiration from its US counterparts Regent Seven Seas and Oceania Cruises, whose cabins for multi-day cruises consistently sell out within a day.

Participants can expect to hop aboard a city-sized ship, complete with all the amenities one might need in order to spend the better part of 3 years at sea. The Gemini Cruise Ship sails the Greek islands on a daily basis, and is currently employed in assistance and rescue efforts after the tragic earthquake in Turkey. Before setting sail, a brand-new hospital will be built aboard Gemini, and its current casino will be transformed into a business center. Furthermore, the organizers also want to make sure the operation is prepared for critical situations, such as the death of a passenger. As a result, and as grim as it may sound, morgues will also be available on the ship, and it will be possible to plan funerals and other official ceremonies.

Petterson also added that the vast majority of inquiries so far have been for the cheapest indoor cabins, which cost $29,999 a year, or about $82 for a day. As for demographics, it looks like this epic journey has been especially popular among people aged 50-70 hailing from the USA and Canada, although it has certainly also sparked an interest among Europeans.

Finally, it’s important to notice that participants will still have plenty of autonomy when it comes to exploring all the cities and places where the cruise ship will be stopping along the way.  Petterson also announced stopping times will differ according to the destination, with Gemini anchoring in the port of Beijing for six days, while in most other cities passengers will have about 2/3 days to explore. That means guests will still have time to rent a car and travel on their own. “We will be in the northern hemisphere in the summer and in the southern hemisphere in the winter, so we will always have summer” – Petterson also announced.
